What are macros?
"Macros" is a shorthand term for macronutrients, the fundamental building blocks of food that our bodies require in large amounts.
The three primary macronutrients are carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. The composition of these macronutrients in a given food item determines its total caloric value.
Carbohydrates serve as the body’s primary and preferred source of energy. They are easily broken down, providing rapid access to fuel.
Proteins are crucial for building and repairing various bodily structures, not just muscle. They also play vital roles in oxygen transport, hormone regulation, and digestion.
Fats are essential for brain development and are necessary for the absorption of key vitamins. Additionally, fats serve as fundamental components for hormone production.
Each macronutrient plays a unique and important role in overall health. Any diet that advocates for the complete elimination of one of these macronutrients is not sustainable and can lead to long-term health issues.
